8.3 – How Shame Affects Identity and Self-Worth: Shame can quietly shape how you see yourself over time. It can make you doubt your abilities, hide your true feelings, and believe that you don’t deserve love or success. When shame becomes part of your identity, you might act smaller than you really are. It can cause you to compare yourself to others and believe they are better or more deserving. Shame feeds negative self-talk, making you question your value even when others see your strengths. Over time, it can make you think that being yourself is not enough. But your identity is more than your mistakes or fears. When you challenge shame’s voice, you make space for a kinder one to grow. Learning to accept who you are—even with flaws—restores your sense of worth. Each time you choose self-acceptance, shame loses a little more control.
