Lesson Overview

7.8 – The Role of the Nervous System in Panic Episodes: Your nervous system is like a messenger between your brain and body. When it senses threat, it sounds an alarm through heart rate, breath, and muscle tension. During panic, this alarm system goes into overdrive even without danger. Learning about how your nervous system works helps you respond instead of panic more. You can practice sending “calm” signals through breathing, stretching, or slow movement. Over time, your body learns new patterns and calms faster after activation. This is called self-regulation—training your body to return to balance. Understanding your nervous system gives you both compassion and control. It reminds you that panic is not madness but biology, and biology can be retrained.
