Lesson Overview

29.14 – Fear and Trauma: When the Body Remembers: Trauma changes how the brain and body process fear. Even long after a painful event, the body can react as if danger is still present. Loud sounds, certain smells, or similar situations can trigger intense fear responses. This happens because the nervous system has learned to associate those cues with danger. Understanding this helps us realize that trauma isn’t about weakness—it’s about survival. Healing takes time, patience, and often support from safe people or professionals. Grounding, breathing, and body awareness can help calm the system over time. Learning to trust our body again is part of recovery. When the body starts to feel safe, the mind can begin to heal too. Compassion, not force, is what helps fear lose its grip.
