Lesson Overview

13.22 – How Depression Alters Self-Identity: Depression changes how you see yourself and your place in the world. It blurs confidence, steals purpose, and replaces self-trust with doubt. The person you used to be feels distant, like a memory that no longer fits. This identity loss can feel terrifying, as if you’ve forgotten who you are. Depression whispers lies about your value and makes achievements seem meaningless. Rebuilding identity means remembering that you are more than your symptoms. You are still the same person beneath the fog—just temporarily hidden. Exploring small parts of yourself through hobbies, reflection, or therapy helps reconnect to who you’ve always been. Each act of self-expression is proof that the core of you still exists. Over time, clarity returns, and identity expands with new strength. Depression may shake identity, but it can also rebuild it deeper, with compassion and wisdom gained from survival.
