Lesson Overview

3.10 – Acknowledging the Loss of “Normal” After Trauma: After a major trauma, what once felt normal can suddenly disappear. Simple routines may feel foreign, and familiar places might seem unsafe. This loss of normalcy can be one of the hardest parts of recovery. It’s the moment when you realize life won’t go back to how it was before. Accepting that truth can feel like another wound, but it’s also a step toward healing. You begin rebuilding new definitions of safety, comfort, and routine. The old normal may be gone, but new strength can take its place. Change becomes less about going back and more about growing forward. Each act of rebuilding—no matter how small—is proof of resilience. Over time, a new version of normal emerges, one built on courage and survival.
