32.8 – Common Myths About Forgiveness: Many people avoid forgiveness because they believe myths that make it seem impossible. Some think forgiving means forgetting, but memory helps us learn and protect ourselves. Others believe it excuses bad behavior, but forgiveness is about peace, not permission. Some fear it makes them weak, when it actually takes incredible strength. Forgiveness does not require the other person to apologize or even be alive—it’s an internal choice. It also doesn’t mean you must reconnect or trust again. It’s not a one-time decision, but a process that unfolds in layers. Each time you choose calm over bitterness, you practice forgiveness. Myths can block healing by making you think forgiveness is all-or-nothing. The truth is, it’s a personal path that looks different for everyone. When you let go of the myths, you make room for real freedom to grow.
