Lesson Overview

9.15 – The Role of Expectations in Creating Guilt: Guilt often grows from expectations—those we set for ourselves or accept from others. When you expect perfection, even small mistakes feel huge. Society, family, and work can all create invisible pressure to meet every demand. When those expectations clash with reality, guilt takes over. Recognizing that no one meets every goal is the first step toward peace. Expectations can be helpful when flexible but harmful when rigid. Learning to set realistic standards allows guilt to loosen its hold. You can care deeply and still make errors; that’s what being human means. When you lower impossible standards, you raise your ability to feel calm. Balance comes when effort replaces perfection as your measure of success.
