Lesson Overview

36.18 – Betrayal by Institutions or Systems: Betrayal doesn’t only come from individuals—it can come from systems meant to protect you. When schools, workplaces, governments, or healthcare systems fail to uphold fairness, the disappointment feels personal and collective. You may feel powerless watching injustice go unaddressed or promises broken. Institutional betrayal damages your sense of belonging and can cause deep mistrust toward authority. It can even trigger trauma when those responsible for safety become the source of harm. Healing begins with acknowledging your anger and validating that your feelings are justified. Seeking allies or advocacy groups helps you regain a sense of voice and community. Over time, you learn to separate the actions of flawed systems from your worth as an individual. Rebuilding faith in fairness may take time, but staying engaged and informed turns pain into empowerment. Every act of truth-telling and advocacy helps restore a sense of justice and personal agency.
