Lesson Overview

14.6 – The Link Between Stress and the Nervous System: The nervous system is like your body’s control center for handling stress. It has two main parts: the sympathetic system that speeds things up, and the parasympathetic system that calms things down. When you’re stressed, the sympathetic system turns on, preparing you to react. Your heart races, your breath quickens, and energy floods your body. Once the danger passes, the parasympathetic system should bring everything back to balance. But when stress doesn’t stop, that calming system can’t fully activate. This keeps your body stuck in overdrive, making it hard to relax or think clearly. Learning to reset your nervous system helps your body feel safe again. Practices like deep breathing, stretching, or spending time in nature help signal to your brain that you’re okay. Over time, your body learns that calm can be its new normal. The more you activate peace, the easier it becomes to handle stress without feeling trapped in tension.
