29.2 – The Difference Between Rational and Irrational Fear: Not all fears are created equal, and understanding the difference helps us handle them wisely. Rational fear is when something poses a real danger, like a fire or a car speeding toward us. Irrational fear happens when our mind imagines harm that isn’t truly there, such as fearing rejection before it happens. Both types trigger the same body reaction, but one protects us while the other can hold us back. When we label which type of fear we’re feeling, we can make better choices about how to respond. Rational fears invite caution, while irrational fears invite self-reflection. Sometimes, past experiences make our brain overreact to small triggers. The more awareness we bring to it, the easier it becomes to challenge false alarms. Recognizing the difference helps us grow more confident and calm under pressure.
