29.3 – How the Brain and Body React to Fear: When we feel fear, the brain and body instantly jump into action together. The amygdala, a small part of the brain, sends signals that tell our body to get ready for danger. Adrenaline rushes through us, making our heart pound and senses sharpen. Our muscles tighten so we can move fast, and our breathing deepens to bring in more oxygen. This powerful reaction is designed to help us survive emergencies. However, when fear comes from stress or imagination, our body can stay in this alert state for too long. That’s when anxiety and exhaustion can build up. Understanding this connection shows us that fear isn’t just “in our head”—it’s a full-body experience. By calming our body, we can also calm our mind. Learning how this system works gives us tools to feel safer and more balanced.
