Lesson Overview

8.4 – The Role of Childhood Experiences in Shame: Shame often begins early, sometimes before you even know the word. A harsh parent’s tone, a teacher’s criticism, or feeling left out by friends can plant small seeds of unworthiness. Children who are shamed instead of guided may grow up believing they are the problem. If you were punished for showing emotions, you might have learned to hide them. If you were made to feel small for mistakes, you may still carry that weight. These early experiences can shape how you respond to shame as an adult. Recognizing where it started helps you break the cycle. It’s not about blaming your past but understanding its influence. When you see that shame was learned, you can begin to unlearn it. Healing means giving your inner child the compassion they didn’t receive back then.
