Lesson Overview

30.13 – Flashbacks and Intrusive Thoughts: Flashbacks are like the mind pressing replay on something painful that feels real again. Intrusive thoughts can pop up suddenly without warning. Both happen when your brain hasn’t fully processed what occurred. During a flashback, sights, sounds, or smells may make you feel trapped in the past. Your body might shake or freeze even though you’re safe. Learning grounding skills helps pull you back to the present moment. Talking to someone supportive can also ease the panic that follows. These experiences don’t mean you’re losing control—they’re signs your mind is still healing. With practice, you can teach your brain that the danger is over.
