🧘🏽 Emotional Regulation & Coping Skills *coming soon *coming soon
Course overview
Lesson Overview

30.4 – How Trauma Affects the Brain and Body: Trauma rewires how your brain senses danger. The amygdala stays on high alert, while the prefrontal cortex, which helps you think clearly, slows down. Your body releases stress hormones like cortisol even when the threat is gone. This can cause headaches, muscle tension, or stomach pain without a clear cause. Sleep and focus may become difficult because your body thinks it’s still unsafe. The brain’s memory system may mix up past and present, leading to flashbacks. Over time, this stress wears down your energy and mood. Learning how trauma works helps you stop blaming yourself. You’re not “too sensitive”—your brain adapted to survive. Recovery retrains your body to relax again, one safe moment at a time.
