Lesson Overview

8.9 – Why Shame Feels Like Hiding: Shame often makes you want to disappear, to hide from eyes that might judge you. It feels heavy because it’s tied to the fear of being seen as wrong or unworthy. When you feel shame, you might lower your head, avoid eye contact, or change the subject. It’s a defense mechanism your brain uses to protect you from emotional pain. But hiding doesn’t heal—it only keeps the pain alive. Facing the feeling, naming it, and breathing through it begin to break its spell. When you realize that everyone has moments of shame, it becomes less isolating. Courage means showing yourself anyway, even when you feel small. The more you practice being seen without hiding, the more freedom you discover in simply being real.
