Lesson Overview

5.2 – What Is Cognitive Distortion?: Cognitive distortions are mental habits that twist reality in unhelpful ways. They make situations seem worse, smaller, or more personal than they truly are. Common examples include black-and-white thinking, jumping to conclusions, and catastrophizing. These thoughts often happen fast, without your awareness, and can drain confidence or peace. Learning to spot them gives you control over emotional spirals. Once you notice them, you can ask, “Is this thought completely true?” or “What’s another way to see this?” Over time, your brain starts replacing distortions with more balanced thinking. You don’t have to believe everything you think. Challenging distortions is how you rebuild clarity and calm from within.
