Lesson Overview

29.8 – Social Fear: Judgment, Criticism, and Embarrassment: Social fear is common because people naturally want acceptance and belonging. The thought of being judged or laughed at can trigger powerful emotions. Sometimes, even small moments—like speaking up in class or sharing an idea—feel terrifying. This fear can lead to silence, isolation, or avoiding new experiences. It often grows from past embarrassment or critical environments. Learning to tolerate small amounts of discomfort helps this fear shrink over time. We can remind ourselves that others think less about us than we imagine. Everyone makes mistakes or awkward moments, and that’s part of life. The more we face social fear, the more confident we become at showing up as ourselves. With practice, being seen stops feeling dangerous and starts feeling empowering.
