Lesson Overview

11.07 – Gaming as Escape: Is It Helping or Hurting?: Games can offer stress relief, community, and skill-building, but they can also become an emotional hiding place. Escaping into virtual worlds may numb hard feelings temporarily but delay real problem-solving. Healthy gaming comes from balance—playing for joy, not avoidance. Notice if sessions stretch late into the night or replace meals, socializing, or schoolwork. Those signs suggest it’s time to reset boundaries. The best use of gaming builds creativity, teamwork, and focus rather than detachment. Try setting intentional breaks and reflecting on your mood before and after playing. Connection to the real world should always feel stronger than the pull of the screen. When games supplement life instead of replacing it, they can remain a positive part of mental wellness.
