34.3 – Falling Asleep When Your Mind Won’t Shut Off: When your mind races at night, it’s often because your brain is stuck in problem-solving mode. You might replay conversations, imagine future worries, or chase endless thoughts. The more you try to force yourself to sleep, the more alert you become. The key is to create a calm environment that signals safety and relaxation. Writing down your thoughts before bed can help unload mental clutter so your mind stops spinning. Breathing slowly, stretching gently, or using a relaxation app can guide your brain from alertness to rest. Try avoiding caffeine late in the day and dimming lights an hour before bedtime. Consistency trains your body to expect rest at a certain time. When your thoughts wander, remind yourself that rest is productive too—it helps you recover and think better tomorrow. Over time, patience and routine teach your mind to slow down naturally, turning chaos into calm.
