21.23 – Understanding Heart Rate and Emotional States Your heart rate changes constantly based on emotion, movement, and thought. When you’re calm, it slows; when you’re stressed or excited, it speeds up. These rhythms are messages from your nervous system, not random shifts. By learning to track your heart rate—through touch, breathing, or smart devices—you gain insight into your stress patterns. Slow, deep breathing directly lowers heart rate, teaching your body that peace is safe. Noticing these changes builds emotional intelligence because you can sense tension before it takes over. Over time, you’ll begin to predict and prevent stress reactions by observing your body’s rhythm. Your heart becomes both a messenger and a guide. Listening to it teaches you when to push, when to pause, and when to simply breathe again.
