34.2 – What Happens to the Brain When You’re Exhausted: When you’re exhausted, your brain struggles to perform even simple tasks because it’s running on low power. The parts responsible for decision-making, memory, and emotional control become sluggish. You may feel irritable, forgetful, or overly sensitive because your brain can’t filter information properly. Fatigue makes it easy to misread situations, turning small stressors into major problems. It also lowers impulse control, making you say or do things you might regret later. Sleep deprivation slows your reaction time and clouds judgment, much like being mildly intoxicated. Over time, exhaustion weakens your body’s defenses, leaving you vulnerable to anxiety and illness. Your brain needs consistent rest to restore energy and clear out toxins that build up during the day. When you prioritize rest, you allow your brain to recharge and regain focus, clarity, and resilience. Exhaustion fades, and your ability to think calmly returns stronger than before.
