16.07 – How to Tell If You’re Flooded (And What to Do): Being emotionally “flooded” means your body is overwhelmed with feelings faster than your brain can process them. It can make you shaky, dizzy, or unable to think clearly. When flooded, logic shuts down because your body is stuck in fight-or-flight mode. Recognizing flooding early is the first step toward regaining control. You might feel heat rising, a lump in your throat, or your mind racing. When that happens, stop engaging with the situation and focus on physical grounding—breathe, sit down, drink water, or step outside. Let your body cool off before trying to solve anything. Flooding doesn’t mean weakness; it’s a sign your system needs a pause. Learning to notice these signals helps prevent regretful reactions. Over time, you’ll see that you can’t control everything that triggers you—but you can always control how you respond once you recognize what’s happening.
