17.16 – What to Pack in a Personal Coping Kit: A coping kit is your emotional toolbox for hard days. It might include fidget tools, affirmations, a small snack, a grounding scent, or a photo that reminds you of safety. Keeping it accessible tells your brain, “I’m prepared, not powerless.” Choose items that comfort without distraction—something tactile, visual, or sensory that recenters you quickly. Refresh your kit monthly as your needs evolve. Label it clearly if you share space so staff respects its purpose. Having this tangible safety anchor builds independence and emotional regulation. Over time, the kit becomes less about objects and more about self-trust—you learn that calm is something you can carry anywhere.
