30.12 – Making a Crisis Safety Plan That Works for You: A safety plan turns chaos into direction. It’s a written list of steps that remind you what to do when you feel like giving up. Start with your warning signs — the thoughts, feelings, or body cues that signal danger. Then list coping skills that have helped before, like grounding, music, or calling a friend. Add the names and numbers of people or hotlines you can reach anytime. Keep it somewhere visible, like your phone background or notebook. The plan should feel personal, not generic — include small comforts that calm you fast. Practice using it when you’re not in crisis so it becomes familiar. Having a plan doesn’t make you weak; it makes you prepared. It reminds you that safety isn’t luck — it’s something you can build. Each time you use your plan, you prove you’re stronger than the moment.
