9.07 – How to Stay Mentally Safe During a Fight at School: When chaos breaks out nearby, your brain may panic, but mental safety begins with clear choices. The goal is to get to safety without freezing or escalating the danger. Focus your eyes on exits, breathe slowly to lower panic, and move calmly if possible. Keeping your voice steady and your body small reduces attention. If you can’t leave, grounding yourself by touching a wall or focusing on your breath keeps your thoughts from spiraling. Afterward, acknowledge that your body reacted to protect you—it’s normal to feel shaken. Processing what happened with a trusted adult or counselor helps prevent lingering stress. Mental recovery is just as important as physical safety. Each step you take to calm down rewires your mind toward confidence. Safety starts in awareness, grows through action, and ends with reflection.
