25.17 – What to Do When You Miss the Person Who Hurt You: Missing someone who harmed you can feel confusing, but attachment doesn’t vanish just because it was unhealthy. Your brain connects love and pain through memories of comfort that existed before or between harm. That longing isn’t weakness—it’s a normal part of grief. Healing means acknowledging both truths: you can miss someone and still protect yourself. Instead of judging the feeling, name it and let it pass like a wave. Write letters you don’t send, talk it out with a counselor, and remind yourself why distance keeps you safe. Missing them doesn’t mean you should return; it means your heart is learning to separate connection from control.
