8.34 – Coping With the Anniversary of a Loss: Anniversaries can reopen wounds you thought had healed. The date circles back each year like a reminder that time passes but absence remains. You may feel sadness, anger, or unexpected calm—and all of it is normal. Planning ahead helps; decide how you want to spend the day. Visit a meaningful place, write a letter, or simply rest. Marking the day intentionally turns pain into remembrance. The goal isn’t to erase the sadness but to balance it with gratitude for the love shared. Some years will feel heavier than others. Over time, the anniversary may shift from dread to reflection, showing how far you’ve come. Remembering is not moving backward; it’s proof that their life still echoes inside you.
