Lesson Overview

22.11 – Being Labeled “Aggressive” or “Too Loud” for Being Yourself: Being called “aggressive,” “too loud,” or “too much” often happens when confidence is misread through bias. For many students of color, simply speaking with passion or setting boundaries can be unfairly judged as anger. This misunderstanding creates pressure to tone yourself down just to be accepted. But confidence is not aggression—it’s self-respect expressed out loud. When you understand this, you can respond with calm clarity instead of shrinking. Learn to use body language and tone to stay grounded, but don’t apologize for having a voice. Your feelings and ideas are valid, even if others mistake strength for hostility. True leadership often begins when people stop asking for permission to exist fully. The goal isn’t to silence your energy; it’s to channel it wisely so your presence teaches others that power and kindness can coexist.
