6.37 – Learning to Set Limits With Parents: Setting boundaries with parents can feel wrong at first, but it’s necessary for emotional growth. Respectfully expressing what you can’t tolerate teaches mutual understanding. Start small—like setting time limits on conversations that become hurtful. Use calm tone and clear words to show you mean business, not disrespect. If guilt arises, remind yourself that self-respect is not rebellion. Writing boundaries down can help you stay consistent when emotions rise. When parents push back, stand firm but kind. Over time, even difficult parents learn to adjust to your limits. Healthy boundaries make love more genuine because it’s chosen, not demanded. Protecting your emotional energy gives you room to become who you truly are.
