Lesson Overview

3.05 – Test Anxiety and Memory Blackouts: When anxiety takes over before a test, your brain can forget everything it knows. Your body’s stress response floods you with energy you can’t control. Calming that energy is key to remembering. Slow breathing, grounding, and positive self-talk lower the panic signal. Preparation also matters—studying over time teaches your mind that the test isn’t a threat. Visualizing success helps your memory find safe ground again. Practice recalling under calm conditions, not pressure. Don’t compare your test habits to others; your rhythm may be different. On test day, focus on one question at a time instead of the whole exam. Even small relaxation routines—stretching hands or rolling shoulders—can restore focus. Remind yourself that performance grows from calm, not fear. Each time you calm down and continue, you retrain your brain to trust itself again.
