Lesson Overview

6.16 – Living With Alcohol or Drug Use in the Home: Addiction changes everything in a household. Promises break, moods swing, and trust fades. Understanding addiction as an illness helps you stop personalizing it. Protecting your safety must come first—never intervene during intoxication. Keep emergency contacts visible and a small go-bag ready if situations get dangerous. Attending Alateen or similar groups provides connection with others who understand. Expressing your emotions safely keeps resentment from hardening your heart. Boundaries—like refusing to hide substances—restore small pieces of control. Remember, you didn’t cause the addiction and can’t cure it. Focusing on your education and emotional health builds a path beyond the chaos. Hope can coexist with distance; loving someone doesn’t mean accepting harm.
