8.16 – How to Talk About Loss When No One Else Will: Many people avoid conversations about death or loss because they fear saying the wrong thing. That silence can make grief heavier. Finding words to express what hurts lifts part of the weight. Start small—say their name, share a memory, or describe how your body feels when you miss them. Talking doesn’t make grief worse; it makes it real, and real things can heal. You might find that others secretly wanted to talk too but didn’t know how. Choosing honesty creates connection and helps others feel safe doing the same. If people still avoid the topic, that’s about their comfort, not your right to speak. Keep seeking safe listeners—friends, support groups, counselors—where your truth can breathe. Every word shared is a step toward turning pain into strength and silence into understanding.
