Lesson Overview

8.06 – Surviving the Holidays with an Empty Chair: Holidays can highlight absence more sharply than any other time. The table feels incomplete, and traditions that once brought joy may now bring tears. You might feel pressure to smile or pretend you’re okay, but grief doesn’t take a holiday break. Allow yourself to acknowledge what’s missing. Light a candle, cook their favorite dish, or share a memory aloud—it’s okay to blend sadness and gratitude. Others may not know how to help, so tell them what support you need or simply ask for quiet company. Healing doesn’t mean ignoring the pain; it means learning to live beside it. With time, new traditions can grow around the love that remains. The empty chair will always matter, but so will the laughter, warmth, and stories that keep their spirit alive around that same table.
