8.15 – Grieving a Life You Thought You’d Have: Sometimes the deepest grief comes not from losing someone, but from losing the version of life you expected. Maybe you imagined a family that stayed together, a dream school, or a future with someone who’s gone. When that vision collapses, it can feel like mourning something invisible. You might feel jealous of others or guilty for being stuck in sadness, but those emotions are part of adjustment. Life rarely follows the map we draw early on. It’s okay to grieve what didn’t happen and still hope for what could. As you rebuild, focus on flexibility—the ability to dream again without erasing the past. Acceptance doesn’t mean liking what happened; it means loosening your grip on what can’t return. Eventually, you’ll see that new dreams grow best in the soil of lessons learned from the old ones.
