Lesson Overview

6.29 – When You’re the Family Secret-Keeper: Families sometimes make one person hold all the secrets—about abuse, addiction, or conflict. That burden becomes heavy and isolating over time. Secrets can twist your sense of right and wrong, making you afraid to speak truth. Remember, protecting others at the cost of your health is not loyalty. Find safe spaces to talk where you won’t be judged or punished. Keeping harmful secrets helps no one heal—it only keeps pain alive. Writing or talking privately with a counselor helps you unload safely. Understand that you didn’t choose these secrets; they were forced on you. You have the right to release what’s hurting you. Real courage isn’t silence—it’s honesty that sets everyone free. Speaking truth carefully can begin breaking the cycle of fear and control.
