2.36 – Emotional Regulation During an Episode: Regulating emotion during an episode feels like steering through storm waves. The first task is noticing the early rise in tension. Label what you feel—naming it calms the brain’s alarm. Use slow, rhythmic breathing to lower heart rate. Ground your senses by touching familiar textures or hearing soft sound. Avoid decisions until calm returns; emotions distort logic. Move gently—walking or stretching releases adrenaline safely. Drink water to steady focus. If safe, express feelings verbally or through art. After the intensity passes, rest deeply to allow recovery. Reflect later to identify triggers and strengths. Regulation is a learned skill, not a talent. Each time you manage an episode safely, confidence grows. Mastery builds over repetition, not perfection. Emotional control becomes your proof of growth and stability.
