1.40 – The Difference Between Sadness and Depression: Sadness is temporary—it comes and goes with events. Depression lingers even when nothing’s wrong. Sadness says, “This hurts right now,” while depression says, “Nothing matters anymore.” Knowing the difference helps you seek the right support. Sadness heals with time and comfort; depression needs care and sometimes treatment. Both deserve compassion. Don’t compare pain—recognize it. Understanding this difference keeps you from blaming yourself for something that needs help, not willpower. Healing starts with naming what’s real.
