17.04 – Creating a Calm Corner or Safe Person List: Everyone deserves a place and a person that make them feel safe. A calm corner is a small area—at home or school—where you can breathe, reset, and collect your thoughts before reacting. It might include a comforting object, stress toy, journal, or headphones. Alongside it, create a “safe person list”—trusted adults or peers you can go to when things feel out of control. Having that list visible reminds you that you’re never alone, even when panic hits. You can build this list with a counselor so it includes backup contacts for emergencies. The act of designing your corner or list already calms your nervous system because it shows you’re in charge of your support. Over time, your brain learns that peace can be practiced. Calm corners and safe people don’t remove problems—they give you the strength to face them steadily.
