Lesson Overview

6.09 – Physical Abuse vs. Discipline: Knowing the Line: Many youth are confused about what counts as “discipline.” Discipline should teach, not terrify. Bruises, marks, or pain meant to control are not lessons—they’re harm. Real discipline focuses on guidance, not humiliation. If you flinch at movement or feel dread before punishment, that’s a warning sign. Keeping notes or photos privately can help if you decide to report it later. Every person deserves respect for their body, no exceptions. Talking to counselors, nurses, or hotline advocates provides clarity and next steps. Remember, love never needs violence to prove authority. Knowing the line empowers you to name the truth and seek help safely. You are worthy of care and protection, not fear disguised as “teaching.” Understanding this difference can stop cycles before they continue to the next generation.
