22.13 – What to Do When You’re Stereotyped: Stereotypes are shortcuts people take when they don’t take the time to know you. They box your personality into lazy assumptions about race, culture, or behavior. Being stereotyped feels unfair because it replaces your story with someone else’s script. The best response is not to prove yourself endlessly but to stay grounded in who you are. Challenge false beliefs through your example, not your exhaustion. Educate when you have energy, but protect your peace when you don’t. You are not responsible for correcting every bias—your growth and confidence do that naturally over time. People’s perceptions may not change overnight, but your persistence in being authentically yourself creates ripples. Stereotypes lose their power when individuals like you keep showing how complex, unique, and real people truly are beyond labels.
