Lesson Overview

4.01 – Mean Girls, Cliques, and Social Exclusion: Social exclusion often begins with subtle actions that make someone feel left out. Cliques can give some people a sense of belonging but can also create barriers for others. When groups focus on appearance, status, or control, they can turn mean quickly. Being excluded can cause emotional pain that feels personal, even when it isn’t. It’s important to see these behaviors as patterns of insecurity, not reflections of your worth. Choosing kindness over judgment creates healthier circles. You can learn to recognize when a group dynamic turns toxic. Sometimes stepping away protects your peace more than trying to fit in. Building friendships based on respect and shared values leads to real belonging. True confidence comes from knowing who you are without needing anyone’s approval.
