Lesson Overview

26.16 – You Deserve Respect, Not Just Tolerance: Tolerance means someone is willing to “put up” with your existence, but respect means they value it. You should never settle for environments where your identity is merely “allowed.” Genuine respect recognizes equality without hesitation or hesitation disguised as politeness. It shows through consistent behavior—listening to your pronouns, defending your rights, and treating you like any other person. Demanding respect isn’t arrogance; it’s basic self-advocacy. You’re not asking for special treatment, only fairness that affirms your humanity. Teach others how to treat you by modeling self-respect first. The more you hold that standard, the more others follow it. Mutual respect builds stronger relationships than forced tolerance ever could. You deserve spaces where who you are is welcomed, not just endured, because existence without dignity isn’t living—it’s surviving, and you deserve much more than survival.
