Lesson Overview

9.45 – When You Flinch or Freeze Without Knowing Why: Sudden reactions like flinching or freezing come from muscle memory tied to past trauma. Your body moves before your mind catches up because it’s wired to protect you. Understanding this helps replace shame with compassion. When it happens, pause, breathe, and remind yourself: “I’m safe now.” Notice where the tension sits—shoulders, jaw, hands—and release it gradually. Over time, these physical resets teach your brain to delay panic signals. Regular stretching, mindful movement, or calming scents help retrain responses. Each time you recover calmly, you prove that present safety outweighs old danger. Healing isn’t erasing reflexes—it’s teaching them they don’t need to fire.
