Children often think, “If it’s my fault, I can fix it.” That false power later turns into guilt that lingers for years. Healing means separating responsibility from survival. You were reacting to an adult world with a child’s logic. It’s unfair to judge that younger version of yourself with grown-up understanding. Compassion means talking to your inner child like you would to a friend who went through the same thing. You did your best with what you knew. Self-forgiveness doesn’t erase the past; it honors the innocence that never deserved the pain it endured.
