30.11 – Telling a Trusted Adult Without Getting in Trouble: Fear often keeps young people silent, thinking adults will overreact, punish, or misunderstand. But trusted adults — teachers, coaches, relatives, counselors — usually just want to keep you safe. The key is choosing someone calm and explaining that you need help, not discipline. Use clear language: “I’ve been struggling with thoughts of hurting myself, and I need support.” Most adults are relieved you came to them because it means you still want help. They might contact professionals or parents, but their goal is protection, not blame. If one person reacts poorly, that doesn’t mean everyone will. Keep reaching out until someone listens with care. Courage isn’t about hiding your pain; it’s about trusting that the right person will help you carry it safely. The first honest conversation often becomes the moment everything begins to heal.
