32.8 – What Happens When Adults Assume You’re Lying: Being accused of lying when you’re telling the truth is one of the most painful forms of disrespect. It plants doubt in your character and steals your sense of safety with authority figures. Sometimes adults assume dishonesty because of bias—they’ve decided who you are before you speak. When this happens, your instinct might be to explode or shut down completely. But staying calm while holding your truth is your strongest defense. Keeping records, writing down what happened, or asking for another adult present during conversations can protect you. Over time, truth has a way of revealing itself. The goal isn’t to convince everyone—it’s to stay aligned with your integrity. When you keep showing consistency between your words and actions, you build a credibility that bias can’t erase. Your honesty remains intact, even when others fail to see it.
