Lesson Overview

19.04 – Poetry as a Way to Speak What Hurts: Poetry transforms your pain into art by giving it rhythm, shape, and voice. You don’t need to follow any rules—just start with a word, a memory, or a feeling. Poetry doesn’t care about grammar; it cares about honesty. When you write about what hurts, the act of describing it creates distance from the pain while still honoring it. You can use metaphors to make emotions less overwhelming, like turning fear into a shadow or sadness into rain. Each line becomes a breath, a small piece of control returned to you. Poetry allows your voice to rise above silence without needing approval. As you craft your words, you begin to see that pain can create beauty, and vulnerability can be strength. Through poetry, your emotions become something you can hold, understand, and eventually release.
