30.15 – How to Help a Friend Who Is Talking About Suicide: When a friend confides in you about suicidal thoughts, it’s natural to feel scared or unsure. The most powerful thing you can do is listen without judgment. Avoid trying to fix everything or saying, “It’s not that bad.” Instead, say, “I’m glad you told me. You don’t have to face this alone.” Encourage them to contact a trusted adult, counselor, or crisis line together. If they’re in danger, stay with them and call for help immediately — safety outweighs secrecy. Afterward, keep checking in; healing takes more than one talk. Being someone’s support doesn’t mean carrying their pain — it means standing beside them while they get help. You can be the voice that keeps them grounded when they forget they matter. Friendship, when grounded in honesty and care, can save a life.
