17.17 – When School Is Your Only Safe Place: For some students, school feels safer than home—and that truth can be heavy. You may feel torn between gratitude for structure and fear of leaving it each day. Build supportive relationships with adults who can connect you to community programs or counseling. Use the hours at school to stabilize—eat, rest, learn, and plan your next steps. If weekends or breaks worry you, ask your counselor to help prepare safety resources ahead of time. Remember, needing school for safety doesn’t make you broken—it shows your resilience. Over time, you can expand that safety beyond the building by creating networks of care. School may be the beginning of your healing, not the whole story.
