Lesson Overview

22.12 – Discrimination From People in Your Own Community: Prejudice doesn’t only come from outside groups—it can sometimes appear within your own. You might hear comments about your accent, your shade of skin, or how “authentic” you are to your culture. These moments are painful because they come from people you expect to understand you. It’s okay to feel hurt, angry, or confused. Remember, internalized bias often stems from generations of comparison and survival in unfair systems. Healing starts when you stop measuring yourself by others’ approval. Surround yourself with people who embrace every part of your identity, not just what fits tradition. You don’t have to choose between belonging and individuality. True cultural pride allows space for diversity within diversity. When you rise above division, you help your community evolve toward unity built on respect rather than rules of “enoughness.”
